Thirteen years ago, the founders of Kafijas Banka set out with a simple but ambitious goal: to offer more than just a drink. They wanted to create a true coffee experience. Today, Kafijas Banka stands as one of the most modern and advanced coffee producers in the Baltic region, roasting over 3 million kilograms of coffee annually. Yet, despite its industrial scale, the company remains rooted in the same values it started with – quality, precision, and a focus on the perfect taste.
Turning a love for flavor into a Baltic roastery
The story of Kafijas Banka began with a deep knowledge of the coffee market and a desire to innovate. By establishing direct relationships with producers and investing in cutting-edge roasting technology, they transformed a shared passion into a powerhouse of production.
“Kafijas Banka was born to be a place where quality and innovation meet. We wanted to ensure that every single cup delivers the best possible experience,” says Kafijas Banka founder Artis Grigo. “We don’t just buy beans; we select them based on sustainability, reliability, and ethical production. Each batch is carefully tested and tasted to ensure it meets our standards.”
This dedication has clearly paid off. In 2025 alone, the roastery processed a remarkable 3,168,000 kilograms of coffee. Their flagship brands, such as the widely recognized PUPA and the Kafijas Banka Gold series, have become synonymous with reliability and premium flavor across the region.
The challenge of rapid growth and diverse markets
Success, however, brings its own set of challenges. As demand surged, Kafijas Banka had to navigate the complexities of supplying large retail chains like Maxima and DEPO, while simultaneously managing a growing Private Label portfolio and exporting to 16 different countries.
“One of our biggest challenges has been maintaining consistently high quality and stable deliveries while growing rapidly,” A.Grigo reflects. “Success comes from combining high standards with the flexibility to respond to market demands. Attention to detail is what keeps our clients’ trust, whether they are a large international retailer or a small local office.”
Today, the company’s reach is broader than ever. While business-to-business (B2B) and HoReCa (Hotel, Restaurant, Cafe) segments remain their core, approximately 35-40% of their sales now happen online – a trend that continues to rise as customers seek convenience and speed.
When coffee becomes a race against time
In the world of coffee, freshness is everything. For Kafijas Banka, logistics is about ensuring the aroma of freshly roasted beans reaches the customer without delay. This is where the partnership with Venipak becomes essential.
“We were looking for a partner with a high level of customer service and reliable fulfillment. Venipak stood out with their convenient IT integration and fast express deliveries,” A. Grigo explains.
For a business shipping roughly 8,000 kg of coffee via Venipak annually, delivery speed was the decisive factor. In an era where customers expect orders to arrive as fast as possible, having a reliable logistics backbone is a competitive advantage.
“Flexible delivery solutions allow us to plan our work calmly. If something doesn’t go as planned, we can find a solution quickly rather than losing time and money. Simply put, it means less stress, more trust, and better relationships with our customers – especially during high-pressure periods like the Christmas season,” A.Grigo adds.
Looking ahead: studios, exports, and the PUPA brand
As Kafijas Banka looks toward 2026, the focus is on deepening the connection with their community. The company plans to strengthen the position of the PUPA brand in the B2B segment and open new “coffee studios” – interactive spaces where enthusiasts can learn about brewing methods and experience the brand firsthand.
“Beyond local growth, the ambition remains international. Our goal is to expand our export footprint and strengthen our presence in international markets. We believe that by combining technical precision with a high quality product, we can successfully compete on a global scale”, says A.Grigo.
And for those looking to follow in their footsteps, their lesson is clear: success is found at the intersection of quality and reliability. Whether it’s the bean you source or the courier you choose, every link in the chain matters.
