Almost half of the population or 47% shop online because it is convenient, while only 15% of respondents indicate that they do not buy goods online. This was found out in a population survey conducted by the international delivery service company Venipak.
When asked what is the main reason for shopping online, people most often said that they did so for convenience, while 12% said that it was easier to compare products with each other, which made it easier to make a choice. The third most popular answer, given by 7% of the population, was a wider choice of goods. Only 15% of respondents said they had not shopped online.
An in-depth analysis of the data shows that convenience is most important among young people aged 18-29, as it was chosen by 60% of respondents, but it is equally important in the age group of 30-39 and 40-49, which was chosen by 56% and 52% of respondents. Older people or between the ages of 60 and 74, on the other hand, shop the least on the Internet, indicating that they do not use this option in 26% of cases. It is interesting that it is more important for women that the goods are delivered to the chosen place, which was indicated by 8%, but for men this issue is not as important, which was expressed by only 3%. Only 5% of the population indicated that they shop online because they cannot visit shopping centers due to the lack of a Covid-19 certificate.
“Online shopping is becoming more popular every month, which is also increasing the volume of order deliveries. There was even some kind of congestion during the holidays, so we continue to focus on maximizing automation of processes and increasing work capacity, which will ensure high quality of service and, of course, satisfied customers,” says Justas Šablinskas, CEO of Venipak.
When asked what the optimal time would be to receive a product after ordering it in the Latvian online store, the residents most often or in 42% of cases indicated that from three working days to one week, while the second most frequently chosen answer, expressed by 34% of respondents – up to two working days. The third most popular answer in 9% of cases was that the speed of delivery depends on the specific product, and in 7% – from one to two weeks.
Analyzing the data in depth, it can be concluded that the most significant speed of product delivery is in the age group from 30 to 39 years, as 43% of respondents want to receive their orders within two working days. On the other hand, young people aged 18 to 29 are most often ready to wait up to one week, indicating that such delivery time is acceptable in 54% of cases.
The population survey was commissioned by Venipak and conducted by the research company Norstat, which surveyed more than 1,000 people aged 18 to 74 in January this year.
