Today the international parcel company Venipak opened its first parcel machine in Estonia, at the Lasnamäe Centrum shopping center in Tallinn. Next year the company will expand the network to 151 machines. Venipak lockers are the first in Estonia where clients can pick up the package with contactless feature.
“In coming years, Venipak aims to become one of the largest parcel networks in the Baltics. In Estonia, Venipak has provided courier services so far and in the same we have been preparing the market entry with parcel machines. Venipak aims to expand the Baltic network to over 600 parcel machines, with 151 of them in Estonia, 201 in Latvia and 251 in Lithuania,” said Darius Zailskas, COO of Baltic operations of Venipak Group.
Artur Parv, Head of Logistics of Venipak Estonia, said that the next five machines will be installed in Tallinn’s Lasnamäe, Mustamäe, Haabersti, Kesklinn districts, the next one at Ülemiste Shopping Center in January 2023. “With the help of Venipak’s network, the total number of parcel machines in Estonia will soon exceed 1,000, from the current total of about 800,” Parv said.
Parv added that Venipak parcel machines come in three sizes, either with 84, 44 or 16 doors, and they will be located outdoors. It will allow 24/7 access to the lockers, which are weatherproof and suitable both for extreme high and low temperatures.
Venipak enters the parcel machine market with a technological innovation, by installing contactless machines. For picking up parcels with contactless feature, client gets a SMS message with a QR code, which must be pointed at the camera on the parcel machine’s screen and a locker door opens in a blink of an eye. The option to enter the package code manually will be maintained if the customer does not use a smartphone or cannot scan the QR code. The contactless function reduces the time it takes to pick up a standard package from the locker, which will happen only in three seconds instead of the usual 20 seconds.
Parcel machines are manufactured by the Lithuanian company Lanksti linija and they can be used for picking up, sending, and returning parcels. Venipak is currently working on integrations with the e-shops and with the gradual increase of the parcel machine network all features will become available to customers. Currently customers living in the nearby areas of parcel machines, can reroute to the lockers their orders made with Venipak courier delivery to if they wish.
