This year, international parcel company Venipak will build up a network of 150 parcel machines in Estonia. In March, the company installs the first six state-of-the-art parcel machines in Tartu. Venipak lockers are the only ones in Estonia where clients can pick up the package with contactless feature.
Four new machines will be installed at Selver supermarkets in different parts of the city, one at Tasku Center and one at Lõunakeskus Shopping Center. In addition, one machine will be in Ülenurme, at Coop Konsum.
„The machines will be strategically located in high-traffic areas to provide easy access to customers throughout the city. With new machines, Venipak is satisfying growing demand for convenient and reliable parcel delivery services,” said Artur Parv, Head of Logistics of Venipak Estonia. “With the help of Venipak’s network, the total number of parcel machines in Estonia will soon exceed 1,000, from the current total of about 800,” he added.
Venipak parcel machines come in three sizes, either with 84, 44 or 16 doors, and they are located outdoors. It will allow 24/7 access to the lockers, which are weatherproof and suitable both for extreme high and low temperatures.
QR code link sent by SMS is safe
For picking up parcels with contactless feature, client gets a SMS message with a QR code link. “In the SMS sent by Venipak you can find a link that begins with https://qr.venipak.com and contains a six-digit PIN number. After clicking on the link, the client must point the QR code to the camera on the parcel machine’s screen and a locker door opens. It’s important to remember that after clicking on the link the client shall not enter any information, just point the code for opening the door. For using the QR code, the phone must have to be connected to the internet,” said Parv.
The option to enter the package code manually will be maintained if the customer does not use a smartphone or cannot scan the QR code. The contactless function reduces the time it takes to pick up a standard package from the locker, which will happen only in three seconds instead of the usual 20 seconds.
Parcel machines are manufactured by the Lithuanian company Lanksti linija and they can be used for picking up, sending, and returning parcels. Venipak is currently working on integrations with the e-shops and with the gradual increase of the parcel machine network all features will become available to customers.
