With parcel lockers becoming increasingly favorable among customers as a parcel delivery option, Venipak is intensively expanding the locker network in Lithuania. By the end of 2021, the company will introduce 250 new parcel lockers with refreshed graphics, reflecting the recent rebranding.
Venipak, an international parcel delivery company, having assessed the needs of customers and the current market trends, will install 250 modern and contactless parcel lockers throughout Lithuania by the end of 2021. The company has already installed 135 lockers, and 200 will be operating by Black Friday, which marks the start of the busiest shopping season of the year.
Experts claim that the automated lockers increase the efficiency of parcel delivery by 3-4 times, compared to home delivery. At the same time, it reduces congestions and CO₂ emissions as well. That is because the parcel lockers are usually located in easily accessible places well known to couriers, where they can deliver a large number of parcels by fewer stops.
“The customers’ needs are changing – they shop online more and wish to pick up the ordered goods closer to home. After also assessing the positive impact of parcel lockers on the sustainability of the last mile logistics, we decided to expand our locker network,” says Justas Šablinskas, CEO of Venipak. “We are confident that the investment will pay off not only in financial terms but in customer satisfaction and environmental benefits too.”
The company is intensively strengthening its international position in the B2C sector and will build in total 450 new parcel lockers by the end of the year: 250 in Lithuania and 200 more in Latvia. The expansion in Estonia will begin next year, with an additional 150 lockers to be installed throughout the country. This year, Venipak invested 1.7 million euros in Lithuania’s parcel locker expansion, while the total investments in the Baltic States come to 4 million. To ensure smooth delivery during the busiest shopping period, the company will hire additional 200 employees in Lithuania.
“The holiday shopping season is the busiest time for logistics companies, increasing the volume of parcels up to 60%. To ensure the quality of our service, we will not only increase the number of employees but also strive to ensure that the new parcel lockers will be installed in the most convenient locations, as close to the recipients as possible,” Šablinskas says.
In 2025, 25% of all parcels will be delivered to the parcel lockers. The Baltic countries are embracing the shift: in 2020, 84% of Estonian, 55% Lithuanian, and 53% Latvian e-shop customers named parcel lockers as the most appealing delivery method. In July-August, Venipak commissioned a representative survey in Lithuania. It showed that the most popular approach of delivering goods ordered online is via the parcel lockers, while half of those surveyed use lockers at least once a month.
