Venipak, an international parcel delivery company, is introducing delivery by electric scooters. This will ensure easier delivery access in old towns and contribute to the reduction of air pollution.
As Vilnius continues to implement its mobility strategy and other municipalities try to reduce traffic in the city centers, an international parcel delivery company Venipak expands its services. From now on, small parcels will be delivered to the residents of major cities’ old towns via electric scooters.
In the middle of this June, the scooters will ride out to the streets of Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai, and Panevėžys. According to Justas Šablinskas, the head of Venipak, the company will start with 10 scooters and will gradually increase the number by monitoring the demand and the number of small parcels.
“Vilnius is not only talking about the mobility strategy but is also considering a ban on combustion-engine vehicles in the Old Town. Many other municipalities seek ways to reduce car traffic in the city centers too. We are glad to contribute to this goal and believe that scooters are a great solution not only for reducing air pollution but for more efficient deliveries too. Scooters can easily bypass traffic jams and parking restrictions, therefore they will be faster and a much more convenient way to reach the recipients,” says Šablinskas.
According to the company, one minibus which is commonly used for deliveries in the city center is equivalent to 2.5 scooters in terms of the number of deliveries. It is estimated that 10 scooters in major city old towns will emit about 15 tons less carbon dioxide in just 9 months.
As the new service is introduced, Venipak is seeking drivers with A or B driving license categories to work as ECO couriers.
“The driver’s license guarantees that people applying for the ECO courier position know the traffic rules and etiquette, which is crucial for the safety of our employees and city residents. We will also issue helmets and special work clothes to ensure further safety. To achieve the highest customer service quality, we will train new employees in our Venipak Academy courier training course,” says the head of the company.
In recent months, Venipak has been actively expanding its services. In April, the company has launched the return service and in May it started air freight shipping.
