The international parcel company Venipak will open the first parcel machines in Estonia at the end of this year and will expand the network to 150 machines next year. Venipak lockers are the first in Estonia where clients can pick up the package contactlessly.
“In line with the earlier plans, we will install the first parcel machines in Estonia by the end of the year, entering the market with a technological innovation. For the first time in Estonia, parcels can be received contactlessly from the locker. The recipient of the shipment receives with the SMS message about the parcel a QR code, which must be pointed at the camera on the parcel machine’s screen and the door opens in a blink of an eye. The option to enter the package code manually will be maintained, if the customer does not use a smartphone or cannot scan the QR code,” said Justas Šablinskas, CEO of Venipak.
The contactless function reduces the time it takes to pick up a standard package from the locker, which will happen only in three seconds instead of the usual 20 seconds.
Venipak, which until now only offered courier services in Estonia, will install the first machines in Tallinn and Tartu by the end of this year. Parcel machines come in two sizes and will be located outdoors.
Venipak currently has 250 parcel machines in Lithuania and 200 in Latvia, all of which are manufactured by the Lithuanian company Lanksti linija, like the ones to be installed in Estonia.
